Monotonic Equibiaxial Flexural Strength of Advanced Ceramics using the ring-on-ring method. Unlike uniaxial flexure, this standard subjects the material to a uniform biaxial stress state, which is more representative of real-world pressure vessel or armor plate loading. The technical challenge is the Effective Area calculation. Because ceramic strength is stochastic (governed by Weibull statistics), the probability of failure depends on the volume of material under peak stress. Our software integrates the Weibull Modulus calculation directly into the reporting module. For the hardware, the loading ring must be perfectly concentric with the support ring. MTO’s self-centering Ring-on-Ring fixture uses a ball-seated loading platen to compensate for any non-parallelism in the specimen surfaces, ensuring that the maximum tensile stress occurs at the center of the disk rather than at the contact points.
