This standard allows for very large specimens, which means our Flexure Base must be exceptionally long (up to 1 meter). The technical nuance involves the Span-to-Depth Ratio. To ensure a flexural failure rather than a shear failure in these relatively thick blocks, the span must be carefully calculated based on the specimen’s thickness.
