Expert Commentary

Flexural Strength of Hydraulic-Cement Mortars. This uses 40 x 40 x 160 mm prisms. It is a Center-Point loading test. The technical requirement is a very precise loading rate (2640 +/- 110 N/min). MTO’s electromechanical frames are preferred over hydraulics for this test because they provide much smoother control at the low-force end of the spectrum. The fixture must have a fixed 119mm span. We offer an Integrated Prism Fixture that fits directly into our small-capacity frames, allowing cement labs to switch between C348 (Flexure) and C349 (Compression) in under a minute.
