Expert Commentary
This standard governs the Shear Fatigue of Sandwich Core Materials. Unlike the static C273, this is a dynamic cyclic test. From an engineering standpoint, the MTO Advantage is our high-frequency servo-hydraulic or all-electric linear motor systems. We must capture the S-N Curve (Stress vs. Number of cycles) to determine the endurance limit of cores used in aircraft floors or wind turbine blades. The technical challenge is heat generation; at high frequencies, internal friction in foam cores can cause thermal degradation. Our software includes Frequency Tuning to ensure the test runs as fast as possible without artificially heating the specimen.
