Expert Commentary
Known as the Splitting Tensile Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens (the Brazilian Test). Because concrete is weak in tension, we split a cylinder longitudinally to induce indirect tensile stress. This requires a high-capacity frame (300kN to 2000kN) and specialized bearing strips (usually plywood) to distribute the load. The engineering focus is on the constant loading rate of 0.7 to 1.4 MPa/min. MTO frames utilize pressure-compensated valves or high-end servo-motors to ensure this rate is perfectly linear, which is critical for legal compliance in structural forensics.
