Bond Strength of Mortar to Masonry Units. Figure 4 details the Crossed-Brick shear test. We bond two bricks together with mortar and then push them apart in a shear jig. The technical challenge is ensuring the line of thrust passes exactly through the mortar joint. MTO’s C952 jig is adjustable to handle different brick sizes while maintaining the required 90-degree alignment to avoid induced bending.
