Expert Commentary
Part of the Testing for Hook-up Wire Insulation. Figure 18 refers to the Insulation Cut-Through test. A weighted 90-degree V-blade is pressed into the wire insulation until it touches the conductor. MTO’s fixture includes an electrical Short-Circuit detection system that automatically stops the test and records the Cut-Through Force. This is a critical safety test for the aerospace and automotive sectors, ensuring that wire bundles can withstand mechanical pinching without failing.
