Expert Commentary
Method E (Tension) and Method F (Tear Resistance) for flexible foams. Foams have very high elongation (up to 500%), so MTO’s Long-Travel frames are required. The engineering challenge is Grip Pinch. If you clamp foam too hard, it fails at the grip; if you clamp too lightly, it slips. MTO provides Spring-Loaded or Pneumatic foam grips that apply a constant pressure regardless of material thinning. This ensures the failure occurs in the gauge section, providing a true measure of the foam’s structural integrity during assembly or use.
