Expert Commentary
Defines the Indentation Force Deflection (IFD) for flexible cellular polymers (Polyurethane Foam). This is the Seating Comfort test. A circular indentor is pressed into the foam to 25% and 65% of its original thickness. The engineering metric is the Support Factor (the ratio of the two forces). MTO provides oversized compression platens with breather holes to allow air to escape. Our software automates the complex 60-second dwell periods required by the standard to ensure the foam has reached viscoelastic equilibrium before the force is recorded.
