Expert Commentary
Standard for the In-Plane Shear Strength of Reinforced Plastics. This uses a double-notched specimen in compression. The goal is to force a shear failure between the notches. The engineering challenge is End Crushing. If the specimen ends aren’t supported, they will fail before the shear plane develops. MTO provides the Shear Support Jig that clamps the specimen faces to prevent buckling. This is a critical lead for manufacturers of pultruded structural shapes used in corrosive industrial environments where steel is not an option.
