Rubber Property—Compression Set (Constant Deflection). This is the most common rubber set test. The specimen is compressed to a fixed thickness (typically 25% strain) using spacers and bolt-plates. After aging in an oven, the Permanent Set is measured. MTO provides the precision Spacer Plates and Standardized Bolts. This is a mandatory test for the O-ring and gasket industries to ensure that the elastomer won’t flatten out and lose its sealing capacity under the constant squeeze of a flange.
