Benchmarks the In-Plane Shear Strength of Polymer Matrix Composite Materials using the Rail Shear Method. Figure 1 details the Two-Rail fixture. The specimen is bolted between two rigid steel rails, and one rail is pushed relative to the other. The engineering focus is on Bolt Torque. If the rails aren’t clamped tight enough, the specimen slips; if they are too tight, they crush the composite.
